CALABRIA. Tarentum. Circa 280-228 BC. Diobol (Silver, 11 mm, 1.05 g, 4 h). Head of Athena to left, wearing crested Attic helmet decorated with Skylla on the bowl. Rev. TA Herakliskos Drakonopnigon: the infant Herakles, nude, crouching three-quarters to right, strangling a serpent in each hand; to left, monogram of MI; in exergue, thunderbolt. HN Italy -, cf. 1068 (head of Athena to right). Vlasto 1455-1459. Rare. An exceptional example, beautifully struck and with a lovely reverse. Extremely fine.
